Missionaries Jan and Hilary
Our church sends monthly support to the ongoing
work of Jan Irish, who was sent to the mission field as a member of our
congregation. Her co-worker is Hilary and they work with
Wycliffe Bible Translators.
They currently live and work in a village called Nobonob in Papua New Guinea.

Hometown:

Education: BA from Anderson
College in Indiana; Associates Degree in Accounting from Davenport College
Lansing, MI
Job Description:
Currently working in Literacy with the Nobonob people in Madang. We have helped
train supervisors and teachers for two Nobonob pre-schools. We are also involved
in making Nobonob books for different ages to help people read the Nobonob Language
so that when the entire Bible is able to be printed, people will be able to read
it.
Position:
Is a part of Wycliffe Bible Translators; joined in 1990. Has worked with SIL
(Summer Institute of Linguistics) in Papua New Guinea since 1991 and has worked
in Finance and Management.
Spiritual Story (How you met the Lord):
Jan accepted the Lord as a child, and at the age of 13 knew
she wanted to be a missionary. She moved to East Lansing in the late 70's to
attend Shiloh/NCCC after being invited by a former member
Favorite Bible Passage:
Hosea 6:6 in the Living Bible: "I want you to be merciful; I don't
want your sacrifices. I want you to know God; that's more important than burnt
offerings."

Hilary Carne
Hometown:
Born in Papua New Guinea to Australian parents.
Parents worked as the manager for an Agricultural station near the SIL Center in
PNG – they experimented with different crops such as coffee and also cattle to
see which ones worked best in PNG conditions.
Education: Trained
in Nursing; Worked as a Bible Translator in PNG – in the Central Province for
about a year and worked as an Eye Nurse in Niger. Met Jan through a mutual
friend

Lamentations 3:22,23: "Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for
